• Building Personal Learning Networks  (PLNs)

    What is a PLN?

A PLN consists of the resources, tools, and materials that support your learning, and the people you informally learn from and share these ideas with, as well.

Teachers need to continually add to their professional skills. In our quickly changing world, the needs students have are also changing and it is our challenge to provide for these needs. This is why we need to keep learning as teachers. Each teacher needs to create a PLN.

We can add to our personal, professional development in any number of different ways. The Internet provides a great way to do this. There are thousands of sites with ideas and resources that you can add to your skills. There are blogs and others sites where you can become involved in discussions and conversations with other teachers who share many of the same concerns that you do.   Each week, there are many articles on the Internet dealing with any number of different topics of interest to teachers.

We have collected some of them here and will continue to add to them.  We have used Wakelets to collect these articles, but there are other ways as well. (Microsoft OneNote is another great way.) Oh, a Wakelet is a tool that allows users to take control of the content that interests and inspires them. Wakelet users can save content and organize it in folders or wakes

You will find some Wakelets  with non-technical articles dealing with many classroom issues and aspects of teaching. Other Wakelets deal with technology in the classroom. You will find some great ideas and tools here.

Here's another suggestion: If you go to a site to read an article and find it interesting and useful, why not "subscribe" to the site for the weekly or monthly articles they send out. You can start by signing up for emails in most cases.

And since collaboration and sharing is an important part of any PLN, if you find a great article, please share it by sending the link to us. We will add it to our Wakelets and give you the credit.
