CogAT Testing
Elementary Enrichment/Acceleration Program Testing
The Niagara Falls City School District will be holding the annual CogAT testing in February 2025. This computer-based assessment is a very important component in the eligibility process for entrance into the Elementary Enrichment Program, as well as into the Preparatory School Comprehensive Acceleration Program (CAP) for the 2025-26 School Year.
Testing will take place in class during the regular school day. The test will be administered beginning February 24, 2025, as scheduled by individual principals. All current Grade 1 and Grade 6 students will be taking the test.
Students currently in Grades 2-5 will be tested based on teacher recommendation or parent request. Any student living in the City of Niagara Falls who would like to take the CogAT but attends a charter school or other private school may make arrangements to be tested at their NFCSD home school during the regular school day.
The completion of the CogAT test provides information regarding the level achieved on each of the three sections, called batteries, of the test. The three sections of the test are as follows:
- Verbal Battery
- Quantitative Battery
- Nonverbal Battery
The data received at the completion of the test is provided to the parent(s)/guardian(s). Any strengths and/or weaknesses in any of the three batteries are shared in the Student Profile Narrative.

Letters must be received no later than Friday, February 7, 2025. Make sure to include in the letter your child’s full name, school, grade, and home address, as well as your name and telephone number. Call the Assessment Office at 286-4285 with any questions.
