At Maple Avenue Elementary, our school-wide Character Counts initiative is an effective program that we use to teach students about the importance of good character. We model our in-class and school-wide efforts after the six pillars of character.
One way that our counseling office has encouraged good character among students and staff in the school is through our Caring Tree bulletin board. Whenever someone engages in kind acts towards another person in our school, we add it to our tree to showcase their caring behavior. We hope that this encourages students to be more caring about their peers and that they see the positive impact their actions have on our school community. Our Caring Tree has just started to bloom.
From December to May, our Caring Tree has bloomed beautifully, thanks to all of the caring acts by our students and staff!
